Cryopen Treatment for Benign Skin Lesions

Treatment of benign skin legions

CryoPen™ is a state of the art treatment that uses extreme cold, or cryotherapy, to painlessly and safely destroy unwanted, benign and superficial lesions on the surface of the skin, such as warts, skin tags, verrucae, milia, cherry angiomas, scars, and resistant hyperpigmentation.

It has four main benefits over other treatments;

  • CryoPen therapy takes far less time; with treatment sessions lasting less than 2 minutes

  • No anaesthesia is required and it is virtually painless

  • It is one of the least invasive lesion treatments in the market

  • It is used in the treatment of virtually any benign skin lesion

How does it work?

CryoPen therapy is a medical procedure that involves the application of nitrous oxide gas ejected under high pressure on to the skin. The gas is very cold which helps to freeze and destroy any benign lesions.

After treatment, it is advisable to leave the area uncovered as this speeds up the healing process. However, your practitioner may apply a simple dressing or plaster if there is a chance that the lesion may get rubbed or aggravated in any way.

What is it used to treat?

CryoPen treats benign skin lesions on the surface of the skin, many of which are no longer able to be treated by doctors under the NHS, due to their cosmetic nature.  It can treat lesions on the face, scalp and body including:

• Skin tags
• Age/liver spots
• Milia
• Cherry angioma
• Viral verrucae (warts)
• Solar lentigo (sun spots)
• Other pigmentation
• Plantar warts
• Condyloma (genital or anal warts)
• Popular nevi (moles, birthmarks etc)
• Contagiosum (water warts)
• Hyperplasia

Frequently Asked Questions

  • CryoPen is a medical device that delivers precise cryotherapy using nitrous oxide to freeze and destroy targeted benign skin lesions. The controlled freezing causes the treated cells to break down and be naturally eliminated by the body over time, while minimising damage to surrounding skin.

  • CryoPen is commonly used to treat a range of benign skin lesions, including skin tags, age spots, sun spots, cherry angiomas, milia, and certain types of warts. During your consultation, your practitioner will assess the area carefully to confirm whether CryoPen is a suitable option for you.

  • Many lesions respond well after just one treatment. However, some larger or more stubborn lesions may require a follow-up session. This will always be discussed with you during your consultation so you know what to expect from the outset.

  • CryoPen treatment is very quick. Most lesions are treated in seconds, and appointments are typically short, making it an easy treatment to fit into a busy schedule.

  • After treatment, the area may look red, darker, or slightly raised. Over the following days, it may form a small scab or crust as the skin heals naturally. This will gradually fall away on its own, revealing fresh skin underneath.

  • CryoPen is considered a safe and effective method for treating suitable benign lesions when carried out by a trained professional. The device is highly precise, meaning surrounding healthy skin is left largely unaffected.
